Essential Guide to the
B&D March & Hymn Tune Contest
Stewards - B&D stewards will be wearing high vis jackets and will help with any queries throughout the day.

COVID 19 - We ask all bands to remain Covid safe and keep your distance wherever possible.
​
Rehearsal Facilities - Unfortunately this year we have decided not to use our band room for rehearsal facilities.
Registrations - These are not required for our contest.
​
Number of Players - We have no limit on the number of players, you are allowed to borrow from other bands also.
​
What can you play?- A short street march towards the contest platform. Once in position to play you play a hymn tune arrangement followed by a march. Music does not require to be published. Percussion can be played in the hymn tune.
Bands will be in standing position.
​
The Draw - This will take place two weeks before the contest on the 29th August.
​
Timings - You will be emailed your timings as soon as possible after the draw has taken place. The first band will start at 12 noon. The contest is expected to finish around 6pm depending on the number of bands entered.
​
Equipment Provided - B&D will provide music stands and pegs plus a drum kit and gloc.
​
Full scores or conductor scores - Please provide one of our stewards with a copy on the day. These can be collected after the end of the contest.
​
Prize ceremony - This will take place as soon as possible after the end of the contest at approximately 6pm. Prizes may vary depending on the number of bands in each section. Cheques will be presented along with trophies which the bands may keep.
​
Refreshments - The band will be selling refreshments including alcohol and there are some some cafes which will be open on the market square.
​
Lost Property/Children - Please inform any member of the B&D Band who will be in band uniform.
​
Where will the contest take place? This will take place in Darwen Market Square, Croft Street, BB3 1BH.
​
Parking - There is plenty of parking around the town centre, more details in the document below.
