Updated: Dec 17, 2019

Despite the horrendous weather forecast our 5th annual March & Hymn Tune contest ran really smoothly with a fantastic turnout.

The winners of the 2019 Blackburn & Darwen Band March & Hymn Tune contest were the Hepworth Band from Yorkshire. 2nd place also went to a Yorkshire band, The Skelmanthorpe Band. 3rd place went to the Ashton Band who have competed in all 5 of our contests.

Winners of the 2nd section were Besses Boys Band, 3rd section winners were Thornton Cleveleys and the 4th section winners were the Brindle Band.

A great day was had by all with lots of positive comments about the contest and the venue.

Nicola Holland from Thornton Cleveleys band sent the following message.

"We had a thoroughly enjoyable time today at a well organised event. Thank you for everything. We will be back again!"

Strata Brass from Yorkshire commented on Facebook.

"Our sincere thanks and congratulations must go to our friends at the Blackburn & Darwen Band for running such a well-organised and slick event - one we are certain will continue to grow in coming years!"

The Musical Director of Strata Jonathan Bates also said.

"Must echo these sentiments - fantastic work from Daniel Thomas and all at B&D yesterday, great competition!"

Thanks to Darwen Town Council for their support in this fantastic event, bringing people from all over Lancashire and Yorkshire to visit our lovely town.

Thanks also to everyone who came to listen and support our Tombola stalls, tea, coffee and cake stalls and also those who supported the Rotary Club.

You can hear some of the performances on our You Tube channel.

Thanks to everyone from Blackburn & Darwen organisation who worked so hard on the day to ensure the day ran smoothly. Special mention must go to our fantastic Junior Band who entertained the crowds prior to the results. Check out our March & Hymn Tune page for some great photos and the full results.
