A massive thank you to everyone who attended our 185th Anniversary Concert on Saturday in the Croston Theatre in Westholme school. We were delighted to welcome to perform with us our friends from Rossendale Male Voice Choir under the inspirational leadership of our own Matthew Thomas.
Our Community Band started the evening off with a selection of film and pop music. In You've got a friend in me we had the two brothers Alex and Levi up as soloists and they didn't disappoint. It was a very lively and enthusiastic opening.
Blackburn & Darwen Band concluded the first half with a set based on a pilgrimage completed by 2 of the bands supporters of the Camino de Santiago (Way of St James) and the band were on top form. Some superb playing especially in El Camino but it also featured Darcie Dewhurst, the band's Principal Cornet, in Song from Milestone in which she showcased her growing talent in abundance.
After the interval, we got to hear the Rossendale Male Voice Choir who took us on a historical journey through their last 100 years, culminating in their visit to Blackpool and Britain's got talent. We were treated to a variety of pieces impeccably delivered with a wonderful warm sound.
To conclude the concert, band and choir combined with contrasting pieces Gwahoddiad and Baba Yetu, the latter featuring Charles in his own captivating way. The Community Band were then added for the Floral Dance and the concert was over.
It had been a huge success, bringing 3 talented sets of musicians together to entertain at such a high standard.
