Blackburn & Darwen Band would like to extend their condolences to Jean and the family of George Wood, who passed away on Saturday 23rd March 2019. George played with the band during the 1970's and 80's on cornet but he was most efficient in his role as Secretary, organising the band at concerts and contests. Always a gentleman and always enthusiastic towards his playing and the band in general, George will be remembered by those present at St Cuthbert's Church, Darwen when, during a performance of the 1812 Overture, he was in charge of the canon effects. Some players have never recovered after the first explosive was set off (in a dustbin for extra volume!) but for good measure he detonated a second when the band and audience were least expecting it! George, you gave us so many good times and worked tirelessly for the band, thank you. Rest in Peace.
