Last night, Blackburn & Darwen Band performed at a concert at AKS Lytham as part of the Preparatory School's Christmas concert.
The band, on top form under the direction of their M.D. Daniel Thomas, played a variety of Chistmas pieces interspersed with performances by the pupils of AKS. Despite several guest players helping out, they wowed the audience, many of whom had not heard a brass band before, including Festive Intrada and culminating in Christmas Finale.
What fantastic musical potential there is at AKS Prep School in the guise of their 80 piece orchestra, whose performance of Jingle Bells brought the house down! There was also a chance to listen to Sally and J J with their rendition of Let them know it's Christmastime, ably accompanied by the band. The Prep School choir then brilliantly sang Let it go from Frozen, again with the band in the background. Perhaps the highlight for all band members was a super-confident performance of Away in a manger by Charlie on Cornet with band accompaniment. He is definitely a star in the making.
It was a pleasure for the band to support our M.D. Daniel in his new role as Music Teacher at AKS Prep School. We hope the relationship with the school will continue so we can witness at first hand the amazing potential being realised.
